Living with Mom for a Month

Well, as of Friday Mom and Jer will have been here for a month.  Truth -- it really hasn't been all that bad at all.  So that's good.  They diligently check on the progress of their place every other day it seems like but no real progress seems to be made on the new floors, cabinets, dry wall.  I think the only day I nearly had a fit was Sunday.  I was super tired.  3 Putt had finally brought Hogan home and Rocky to my house for the first time so there were 6 mammals here in total which was super overwhelming. I worried for a minute that maybe this wasn't the place for Rocky -- but I am feeling better now.  I hadn't slept in my own bed for 5 nights, most nights I didn't get much sleep, I had to work the next day and I couldn't fall asleep until after 11.  I may have had a small fit on Jer about loud music outside.  Ewps.

So, on Monday I worked late, came home and took half a kolonopin, walked the dogs and went to bed super early.  It was heavenly.  And just what I needed.

I'm feeling a little better about life.  Jer does travel a lot and 3 Putt has been busy with work so it's been just me and mom the last two days with the dogs.   I had girls dinner last night and gave her some time alone.  Just give and take.  I will say that Mom is a great roommate.  She empties the dishwasher before I can even think about doing it.  She waters the plants (I mean - who is going to do that when she leaves?) and we get to sit out on the patio and have coffee a lot of mornings.  I know that it's hard for Jer because as he says he is "a man with no country" right now so I believe that he is fighting some grouchiness about that and truthfully, I would be too.  He has been a really good sport about walking dogs and picking up poop so lets all give him mad props for that.  Oh, and Mom is always up in the kitchen cooking all of the delicious things.  So I may ask her to stay for a while.

So, as it stands I am not sure how long they will be here.  No big fights yet.  Hopefully none will come!

How 'Bout Them Apples

So....my mom and her boyfriend have to come live with me for at least two weeks while they renovate her condo {had a water issue, it was sudden, long story}.  So there's that.  They will be here all the way through my 30th birthday.

I haz the birthday blues. Again! Like every year.  Not because I will be 30, but I just feel like any plans I ever make and try to enjoy for that day {we seriously aren't doing anything big -- girls dinner Friday, double date Saturday} just never work out like I want.  I realize that no one would know I will be 30 because hey, I sound like a 5 year old.

So...minor plans for this weekend.  I need to do all the chores since I at least don't want to be bothered by that next weekend.  Maybe catching some sun.  3 Putt and I planned a chill Saturday night with cooking at home and a romantic patio meal.   But we will be +1 so I guess I should revamp my plans.

Oh but I do have girl time and wine with C tonight. So hopefully I will be soothed after that and a morning run on Saturday and I can be less bratty about life.

I'll be sure to report back on this fun-filled family adventure.

For the Moms

I often find that Mother's Day is one of those days where you too often realize that maybe you've never said enough "thank you's" or hugged enough or called enough or smiled enough.  But, is there ever enough time given to us for all of these things for any loved one? I am not sure; however, it is important to me to say a few things, about a few Moms in my life today.

To my Mother -- thank you for paying our booster fees for all our high school activities, even though we were poor and you cried because it was so expensive. Thank you for showing me that a woman can, in fact, replace an entire deck on the back of a house with almost no assistance and getting it done even when you had to drag three small children to Home Depot on all your days off one summer.  Thanks for showing me that vacations and trips are not something I am entitled to take and they are not always in the budget. I think that most children and young people probably don't grasp this concept. Thanks for the trips we did take together.  Thanks for living next door to your mother (Grandma) which could not have been easy for you, but was great for your children and your family. Thanks for showing me how lovely it is to just sit outside and have coffee and breakfast. Thanks for that stupid Abercrombie and Fitch sweater that you told me I couldn't have that you went back to buy after I cried all the way home about it.  It was a frivolous thing to get upset about when we had no money for overpriced sweaters.  I know you couldn't afford it, but you got it for me anyway. Thanks for not slapping me in the face that time when I was 16 and was outrageously rude and disrespectful to you -- I will never forget your decision to close your hand into a fist and put it by your side instead (even though I deserved it).  Thanks for not being one of those pushy, overbearing Moms.

To my Step Mother -- thanks for welcoming all of us into your home and your heart even though we are not your own.  Thanks for all the laughs and laying out in the backyard on a quilt in the summer with us.  Thanks for taking us to the movies all the time when we visited on the weekend. Thanks for being another strong woman in my life.  I feel especially lucky to have "two" Moms.  Thanks for loaning me good books.  Thanks for all the gym trips together. Thanks for helping me pick out my prom dress Senior Year. Thanks for making Dad happy and keeping him in line.  Thanks for letting me live at home after college and for keeping a roof over my head while I looked for a job. Thanks for always telling me what you really think.  Thanks for giving me my only brothers, even if they are just "step" brothers.

To The Housewife -- Thanks for being understanding about how difficult it was for me to share you with #1!!!!  I love her dearly, but you had always been mine before she came to us.  Thanks for showing me how to fearlessly jump into something as huge as committing to the task of having a husband, starting a family, and devoting all your time and energy to this in a loving and positive way (even on the not so good days).
