Winding Down

I use the phrase "winding down" loosely because I'm not sure this household ever winds down....more like wine down. In the Single Gal's absence I will say the wedding was beautiful and wonderful, in case you were wondering. She can fill you in on the rest.

There are so many cookies in my house right now and I cannot stop eating them. Whoopsies.

I just finished my Christmas shopping and nay a gift wrapped at this point.

My Christmas present was expediting myself a new passport so I can meet up with Turtle on his trip to London in January. A four day trip to London. Pray for the kids when I get home because I *may* be a little bitchy if I'm jet lagged. Also, what did people do without cell phones because I have to get myself to The Waldorf and wait for him to arrive from some fancy chateau where he is staying prior.

The twins are really just not there with the Santa Clause concept. Let's hope they don't expect to wake up to new toys in the living room every morning. Lord help me if they fight over everything. I'll take it straight to Goodwill.

It's pretty rainy and cold here in Atlanta. I'll pretend I'm not about to get in my pajamas at 2:30 in the afternoon. I need to bake some banana bread and wrap gifts once the kids go to bed.

I hope you all have a very Merry Christmas. Bring on the red wine, champagne and cheese plates.

Xoxo

Wedding Wednesday...Sort Of...

I just felt like I had to do one of these because hey -- we are almost out of time.  A few weeks ago I was feeling really wound up about finalizing our last few items but a legit calm has descended upon me. I'm seriously just not that stressed about any of it at this point.  I really credit this to us sticking with a small, simple, event.  This is when everything pays off because the only other items I have on my list are really easy -- like stuffing favors while I watch the SEC Championship game this Saturday. Oh, and shout out to Amazon for all my last minute needs. They have everything.

Matt and I are winding down -- even though the wedding is next Saturday his parents will arrive on Monday followed by his sister and brother-in-law Wednesday night.  So we have planned some fun dates this weekend and I'm going to do my best to relax and prepare for guests.  Oh -- and pick up my wedding dress since they are steaming it this week.

I wanted to write more...but I'm exhausted! This was really just a wow-I-can't-believe-I'm-prepped-and-not-popping-xanax post.

Little Things for Monday

Mostly this weekend I was thankful for time at home, for having a home to decorate for Christmas, the simple pleasures of book, my sweet dogs, laughing with Matt. Here are a few things that caught my eye -- we will go with some pretty light fare for Monday after a holiday weekend.

I found a link to the cutest video -- and I don't even really like videos.  However, the New York Times treated some second graders to a tasting menu at a Michelin star restaurant and I got really sucked in.  It's long -- but worth the time.

I don't know why I am seemingly obsessed with the color red lately but these pants are in my head and they won't leave...

The wedding is close. Less than two weeks.  (!!!!!!)  When I start to get worried about small details I want this to be my mantra:

See -- short and sweet.  I've got 5% battery power and my charger is so far away I'm not getting up to drag it over.

Happy Monday!

Catching Up + Thanksgiving Recap

Happy Weekend everyone! I have to say -- I only had to work 2.5 days last week and even though it will be a complete nightmare to go back to work until the wedding I have had the best time off.  I really think that Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday -- the food is great and it just seems more low key and less stressful than Christmas.  I came home from work and started baking early and finished a book by the fire.  It was heavenly.

First -- we started off the holiday with our half-marathon! I have not run the Atlanta Half course in several years and they have changed the course since I ran last time.  We had a really great race but I was battling some cramps and being depleted around mile 11 (mainly because we were speed demons right out of the gate) and The Housewife left me to finish a bit ahead.  With all the hills on this course it made the back half of the race very tough so I was still very happy to finish just under 2 hours and 15 minutes.  We hit some really great splits -- if only I could have held them the last 2 miles.

I immediately came home and started cooking before a trip to my Dad's.  I tried two new recipes this year -- the chocolate mousse pie above and a butternut squash + kale gratin.  I got both recipes from Martha Stewart Living and they were all a hit.  The gratin was really easy and while the pie had a lot of steps none of them were too difficult.

Friday I had a lazy day and when Matt got home we went to a local farm here in Alpharetta to pick out our tree.  I loved our small tree last year and wanted to get another small one -- but I wanted to up my game and get a flocked one.  They are definitely expensive but if you get a smaller one its not as hurtful to your bank account.  Also -- if we return the stand ours came in we will get a $30 gift card. If you are in the Atlanta area I highly recommend supporting local for your Christmas tree and nursery needs with a trip to Scottsdale Farm.

Saturday was my final dress fitting and watching the GA v GA Tech game with the fam.  It's a nice tradition -- but I like it a lot more when the Dawgs don't lose.  Also -- I've been living in this plaid shirt from JCrew -- I am obsessed.  It's 30% off today if you care.

So far today I've happily cancelled my Fly Barre reservation, had copious amounts of coffee by the tree, and am determined to finish up Christmas decor today while also trying to read 8 library books that are overdue.

Happiest of Holidays to all of our readers!

Edging Closer to The Big Day of Happiness....

Holy Moly! Excitement! We are less than 30 days from our wedding.  I had to kick it into high gear this weekend for some tasks that we really need to complete before Thanksgiving -- because really I don't want to leave it all until the last minute.

First and foremost -- I'm really glad The Housewife and I have been training for the half-marathon.  I have been pretty good and really trying to watch what I eat (some days are better than others) and my goal is to throw in some yoga whenever I can and get in my Fly Barre classes until the big day.  My favorite at home yoga is Jillian Michael's Yoga Meltdown.  Seriously try it -- it's hard and it's only 35 minutes (just Google it to find it on YouTube).  But really I feel like I'm in better shape than I have been in the last year or so and it feels SO good!

It's been super cold lately -- I'm praying for a teeny warm front.  Just a little one.  And some good sunshine for pictures.

I'm really happy that with a little help along the way from my parents and a lot of saving on our part we are very on track with our wedding budget.  We have not gone above and beyond or into an uncomfortable zone for any item or need for our wedding -- I'm talking rings, reception dinner costs, flowers, dress alterations, bridal accessories, etc.  I may try to do a small post on some of my budget items.  Matt has been super helpful and I have put a good deal of things on his plate to take care of like finalizing items with the restaurant regarding food, wine, & cake, purchasing our wedding favors, taking care of all our hotel arrangements, and he even wrote a big pile of thank you notes last week for some gifts.

We really don't have much left to do -- marriage license, finalize my itinerary, finalize ceremony details, final fitting for my dress, put together wedding favors, and find Matt's tux.    Ideally I will have this all done before Thanksgiving.  Then maybe we can focus on Christmas and planning our trip to London/Scotland (more excitement)!!

~happy hump day everyone~

Monday Obsessions {stuff in my bathroom}

I know a lot of bloggers dump out their make up bags and put up pretty photo-shopped items for posts like this but we have Real Talk here and really, these are just Things in My Bathroom I Like.  (Simple is best, no?)

Ok, so I rarely go to Wal-Mart but when I do I always get caught up wandering around the beauty aisles.  There is just so much to look at.  And so many budget friendly items.

I happened to grab the intensive hair treatment -- it wasn't much and I figured the locks could use some love pre-wedding or for the rest of my life in general.  I really think this was under $5 -- and it works really well! I'd really love to try more of this product line.

fresh

When you save money on your hair stuff you can splurge on shower gel.  I can't remember the last time I decided to spend some extra money on something other than the Dove soap we use every day.  I love this Sugar Lemon shower gel. It makes me happy in the morning.

the naked knock off...

The Physicians Formula Naked knock-off finally made it to my house (from Wal-Mart, duh) and this thing is no joke.  I feel like the shadow stays on ALL DAY.  Which is hard to find even at Sephora.  I love it and wear it every day.  All the colors are great.

What's in your bathroom?

I'm kidding. Sort of.

Thoughtful Thursday

What I'm reading....

The Fiery Cross by Diana Gabaldon and basically crushed JoJo Moyes' Me before You, in a span of 15 hours. Granted, I only got 5 hours of sleep which probably wasn't the best decision. It was so hard to put down.

What I'm watching....
Really I'm just watching tons of college football when I can. My husband has been traveling and I don't turn on the tv ever when he is gone (hence all the reading).

What I'm up to....
Fall is always so packed with things. We have lots of family to celebrate the kids birthdays with, lots of check-ups and sick visits to the doctor this time of year. Many of our friend's children or No. 1's classmates have fall birthdays and we have the birthday party circuit we hop on as well. I am not sure I can really believe the twins are two already or that I have No. 1's pre-k information meeting at the pre-school next week. Oh and let's not forget trying to fit in all the running for the half-marathon training. Single Gal has been very flexible with me since lately I seem to be having a bunch of commitments on Saturday and we've been moving runs to Sunday mornings.

What I'm not loving....
The time change! I think this is the first year it wasn't so terrible getting the kids switched over. I went to my MOPS meeting last night at church and it felt so late leaving since it was dark. I know it will be worse when it's cold and dark!

Also, I have to take Harper to the cardiologist tomorrow. Our pediatrician thinks she has a heart murmur and asked us just to get it listened to so we don't worry about it. I'm sure it's nothing, although you never know with these things. I also say they think she has a heart murmur because frankly, Hadley is so terrified of our doctor right now it's hard to hear him over her crying. But he did bring in the sheet with cardiologist referrals and told me to go and their was the word "murmur." I've never been to a cardiologist so it feels weird to be taking a two year old  to one. So maybe a quick prayer for her if you will?

Oh and I almost forgot! No.1 has fallen doom to my husbands poor eye sight. She had to get glasses this month. She is doing pretty well with them. She was really excited at first but the last few days I find her taking them off more, mainly at home.

Sorry for the absence....for like the 3 of you who read. Ha!
Love you Sungle Gal...see I did blog this week.

Monday Obsessions

Happy Monday, all! I hope you had a great weekend! Last week was not very productive other than doing a lot of work at the office but I think I just needed a break from house cleaning, exercise, laundry and My Fitness Pal.  Granted, the house was a disaster all week which doesn't necessarily relax me -- but some days you have to step back for a greater problem I guess.  The weekend was equally relaxing aside from getting prepped and ready for an organized week so here we are!

JCrew Oversized Stripe Turtleneck $55

I love so much about this tee.  It had really high reviews -- but I always question the length and drape on a lot of JCrew stuff because I'm so tall yet also small across the shoulders.  I ordered a Medium - mainly because I've been trying for some slouchy-ness in all the things I have ordered lately.  I really like the medium -- but I kind of want to try the black one in a small. Just to see. This shirt so far is extremely comfortable, not too thin, a great length and a great price point (I got mine 25% off).

buy here

I got my friends this as part of their hostess gift for my Bachelorette party -- but I really feel like I should have gotten one for myself, too.  All our travel mugs here have seen better days and this $14.00 mug from Shop Ban.do is super cute.

buy here

I don't know if I'll be able to afford it but because it was so damn cold this weekend I got really obsessed with wanting this sweater.  But the Old Navy lookalike is probably more of what I can afford these days.  Also, apparently I have a thing for turtlenecks this year.

What are you wearing to stay warm?

Sunday Fun

Well, I think I'm coming out of my weird "my body is trying to be sick" funk. My sinus are a little blah but I regrouped on workouts and eating healthy this weekend and finished up my mileage and ate well (minus that bottle of Pinot Noir Matt and I tackled while catching up on New Girl Friday night).  I even dragged Arnie out for my 3 miles on Saturday.  What a cutie.

It has been a great weekend.  We have our engagement pictures this evening so that means I can demand that Matt come home from work at 3 pm today! I haven't seen him much this month -- he is either in a tournament or working 13+ hour days.  I almost feel bad about complaining that I'm stuck here with all the housework.  Almost. I think Old Navy ended up saving the day with a blouse to wear for our pictures that cost me around $20-$25.   Although I do feel like I spent a ton of money this week - but we had the townhouse pressure washed along with the back patio/driveway and it looks super fantastic.  I just keep staring into the back yard and I'm SO glad the side of the house isn't green with mildew anymore.  I was even inspired to update the front porch a bit. My thumb has gotten a bit "greener" but I still kill some of my plants immediately.

In other news -- if you have been searching for some calf hair pumps like I have for the last year, you may be interested in these Ann Taylor beauties that are 50% off this weekend.  It's the best deal I have found -- and I love the zipper detail on the back.  They are $74! Code: FASHION50

I even braved our new Whole Foods at the Avalon development (I'm addicted to big salads right now.  It's better than cheese dip, right?) while I was out picked up the rest of my fabric that is needed for my chair recovering project and the only thing I left to do on my pesky bathroom floor project is to seal it! It's a good thing I wasn't commissioned to paint the Sistine Chapel because hey...I'd still be doing touch ups 10 years later.

How is your weekend?

Wedding Wednesday

Is it too late for Wedding Wednesday? I know I'm almost out of time! I had a weird day and I feel a little sick.  I am not sure what is going on -- but it needs to go away. I decided to skip the gym tonight, take the dogs to the park with Matt, and eat lots of Thai food and Twizzler bites.  (Note, the sugar did not help my headache.)

I feel like I'm really down to some fun details now.  The only thing I'm a bit worried about is hair and make-up but I'm hoping a good trial run will make me feel better.  I have been cruising cake toppers this week! They are cute and they make me smile.

I had no idea there were so many different things out there.  Here are some that I thought were...um...interesting and some that I really love.

Buck and Doe - this one is sold out but more from the Esty shop here if this floats your boat.

Here are some cute, modern people for the comic lovers.

These guys are sold but more from this Etsy shop here

Really liked the ones from Better Off Wed on Etsy, too!

Something simple...

You knew this one was coming! Pugs!  Too bad it's $125. (really?!)

I'm taking votes! Happy Wednesday!

Monday Items and Obsessions

I'm so bummed I had to run home today after work! I actually attende my Monday night gym class 3 weeks in a row -- and now I have missed what should have been my fourth.  Matt is out of town and against my better instincts I opted not to schedule the dog walkers since he would be home at 6.  That was a great plan until he had an hour and a half delay.  Sigh.  Trust your instincts people.  Even for menial items.  Lucky for you I've scrapped the gym and Matt and I are having a quick date night now so while I wait for him you are stuck with my internet presence.  I guess your either horrified or glad about that.

I'd really like to do some online shopping but hey -- the house needs to be pressure washed so again I say -- "Hooray Responsibility!".  But I don't really mean it.  I keep trying to wrack my brain for some really cool stuff to post here but I am in a bit of a shopping slump so I can't find much -- because I feel like I keep seeing the same things over and over and over again and by the time I want to order something I'm not even into the item.  I love a good bandwagon but lately I can't commit.

I am, however, dreaming of one of these bracelets for wedding day and beyond.

small sarra cuff - loren hope $58

I would also like to force the dogs into some costumes for Halloween.  But I am trying to curb what I call 'ridiculous spending'.

But something like this may well be worth the money!

I'm really obsessed with wanting to order Erin Gates' new book.  It's so beautiful on the outside, she seems beautiful on the inside and the outside -- it just seems like something I really need to read and display in my home. She was in Atlanta just over a week ago for a book signing at Ballard Design.  I didn't make it.  Did anyone go???

You can grab her book on Amazon Prime for $22.14

{october R & R}

Happy Sunday, my friends! I've dubbed today "do nothing of real consequence Sunday" because I have a day trip to Columbia, SC to see my sweet niece baptized so it didn't seem right to even get into any projects this morning.  And really, after a 10 mile run and numerous home items taken care of yesterday I fell into bed at 9:30 completely unable to finish the FSU v. ND game and fell asleep.  Also - how amazing is it to fall into that bed of freshly washed and bleached sheets and blankets? It's my favorite.  If only someone would go get some groceries for me since Matt isn't coming home from a trip until tomorrow...

I've been doing really well with my vow to be very un-scheduled this month and I feel so much better.   It's really harder than you think it would be! I feel like there are always people you need to see, birthday parties, family events, etc. happening.  Rested, able to focus on my running, able to keep the house in order and spend some quality time with the dogs on the days we are not at work.

A few things I perused this weekend that I thought I would share with you.

1. Jess Graves of The Love List put up an October Spotify playlist that is really decent.  Always nice when someone who has the time to devote to music makes me a great playlist because I can't even begin to make time to keep up with the music universe.

2.  All my runners out there -- you can still register for the Atlanta Thanksgiving Day Races -- they do a 5K and a fun run so don't feel like you have to work too hard on a busy holiday. My pace has been super slow lately but regardless of time it has been fun to get back in really good shape and spend Saturday mornings with The Housewife.  It has also helped keep me honest for the wedding.

3.   I know my Pug obsession is already out of control but Matt showed me this video one morning before work.  Like one person said -- you may never know as much joy as this man.

What are you doing this Sunday? I feel like if I wasn't leaving on my day trip it would be a great baking day.

Love you. Mean it.

Friday Five

Happy Friday! We made it! It's been a weird week. Part of it seemed agonizing slow but the other part seemed to have flown by.  I don't know if I was a crazy and hormonal or what but we went through all the highs and lows this week at my place.  I said this on Twitter and stand by it - if you think you are above losing your shit over something seemingly small (but not to you) for your wedding I have news.   You are not.  A tuxedo just may do it.  It happened to me.  True life.

Anyway...five things.  I shouldn't deviate from programming.

1. In light of the above -- this was seen on Pinterest and struck home.  For real.

Except that I want what I want for my day, yo.  #thestress

2.  I've been really good about resisting weeknight drinking in honor of fitting in my wedding dress but this week I was glad we actually had some in the house.  Actually I wish we had more.

3. Do you think my dentist knows how annoying it is to floss twice a day? I'm usually done with life as soon as work is over so anything I do after that is extra - workouts, making dinner, walking the dogs. I mean, washing my face is chore enough.

4. After boyfriend jeans were all the rage for the last 3 years -- I finally got some during the GAP sale.  Extra 25% off of $30...why not?

They run big.  I probably could have even gone another size down but I figured they are supposed to be baggy and it wasn't worth the exchange. I really do like them!

5.  At least we finally booked our Honeymoon/Scotland trip to see Matt's extended family later on in December.  I feel like we got a decent deal on Expedia for flight + hotel together to London.  I am really excited to see everything decorated for Christmas and to go to "high tea".  We are staying at the Waldorf! (Aren't we fancy?!)

Love you. Mean it.

Happy October!

I know, I know we are already 11 days in -- but I'm here and welcoming October.  I have assumed supreme Golf Widow status since Matt has tournaments the rest October on the weekends.  We have very few social plans on the calendar so far for the entire month and it is a blissful feeling.  September was really wonderful and busy but I can't deny how nice it is to just relax.  I'm hoping to get caught up on blogging but maybe that never happens?

I have to say that we did a great job of getting some wedding items knocked off the list in September.  I sent off my passport to be renewed (it just came back -- goodbye horrible photo of me),  we had our shower, I had my Bachelorette, ordered wedding invites and stamps (sent them out last week -- so that's technically October), ordered my wedding band (!!!), wrote copious amounts of thank you notes, took copious kitchen items to Goodwill to make room for the new, sent our deposit to the restaurant for our dinner, ordered and sent our invites to Matt's parents for our reception in Scotland in January.

Wedding planning reflections so far -- the To Do list is long but lately it hasn't been that bad.  The beginning was stressful -- so many decisions but other than the debacle with my wedding dress (more on this later) I haven't shed any tears and we haven't had any big arguments.   I have been incredibly overwhelmed by the love and support we have received from friends and family -- especially some friends of mine that I am not able to invite to the wedding but have sent us a gift and well wishes.  I could have cried with happiness. I was so touched.  Every day I wake up and I am so happy with our decision to keep it small and intimate even if it hurts to miss some family on our big day.  Also -- I placed two orders with Wedding Paper Divas and I want to take a moment to say their customer service is amazing and my invites were beautiful and well done.  I had an issue with switching a shipping and billing address for our invites that were shipping to Scotland and they were really on top of this issue and corrected it for me with no problems.  Also -- LOVE that they ship overseas.  That was a big plus.  Super happy customer right here - I would highly recommend them!

I picked up my wedding band yesterday. I want to wear it every day. I think Matt is going to have to hide it from me.  This is what I looked like last night according to him:

I wanted to add some other pictures but I'm taking the plunge and updating my phone this morning.  I hope it survives.

Love you. Mean it.

Monday Obsessions - Bargains

Happy Monday! I survived Bachelorette weekend! I had tons of fun and I definitely don't feel as dead as I did last week -- even though we didn't roll back to our hotel until around 4 AM Sunday. Oops.  I am really hoping to get some pics from the girls and do a little recap this week.

I broke shopping hiatus and bought some Vince Camuto Hillari booties at Nordstrom Rack this weekend along with a mirror for the house that was $20 at TJ Maxx.  But that's pretty good right? My Vince Boots are taupe and I still am in need of some black ones but clearly need some budget wear.  I am definitely going to give these Forever 21 booties a try when I get my bank account back in order after a crazy weekend.

I am really feeling home updates lately -- I think that has helped me not shop actually.  How amazing are these storage baskets from H&M Home?

I also really like this Urban Outfitters Taj Wall Mirror. I know you can find a lot of mirrors at Homegoods but I have never found one this shape.

I'm definitely looking forward to a low key week! We had last week off from our running schedule and October will be full of long runs.  Maybe I can make time to actually register for the Thanksgiving Half....

On other note -- it's my mom's birthday today! Happy Birthday Kay!

Hitting the Wall

Guys, I so want to find the energy to do a really fabulous weekend recap because it was so fun and amazing -- but also incredibly busy and not filled with sleep.  I'm entirely off my game this week.  Totally packed up for a morning at the gym in my office building sans undergarments today.  Forgot to put out the meat to thaw for dinner.  So, I stopped on the way home to grab some along with my dry cleaning.  Except I drove off without ever seeing my dry cleaning lady.  It's not really a bad week so far -- it's just that it's not flowing normally.

So small recap -- our shower was SO fun and amazing.  We stayed up late.  Opened a few gifts.  Ate lots of food.  Drank lots of wine.  Ate breakfast at our fave Waffle House in Brookhaven. Sunday -- we ended getting some free tickets to see Garth.  It. Was. The. Best. Concert. Ever.  Too bad I was so hungover I was not even able to stomach a beer.  We came home at midnight - hence my lack of a brain this week.

Other tidbits -- my Bach is this weekend.  So I really should be catching up on my sleep every night this week but I am still trying to squeeze in workouts, actually take some time to cook dinners, write copious amounts of thank you notes, and I have to get some cavities filled at the dentist.

Bright side -- I met a twitter friend for lunch today.  We ate a Cafe Jonah and she was beautiful and wonderful and just so sweet! I hope she liked me too and we can meet up again.  Yay internet universe.

Ok short post today.  Even though I am exhausted I am so full of love this week.

Friday Five

Happy Friday! We made it through another week (and another week of me not blogging).  I am really working towards better time management.  I know, I promise this every time.  But I feel like I'm getting back into the swing of life. The pending arrival of fall has me inspired.  I hope you all had a lovely week!

1. I know I gushed about our wedding invites but hey I'm lazy and waited until the last minute so I didn't exactly order a sample from Wedding Paper Divas so I was a bit nervous about how the gold border would turn out on the invite...sometimes gold can look a bit chintzy to me.

2.  Matt and I were walking the dogs Labor Day weekend in the neighborhood and went by a yard sale and I found 2 wing back chairs that were $40 for the pair.  They have a wonderful shape and were in great condition - minus their mustard yellow corduroy upholstery.  Last Sunday I went to Joann's and I was able to get 16 yards of fabric on sale for $150 (If you have never looked at fabric before you won't know that's a steal -- but it really is!)!  I have to wait a few weeks for the rest of my order to come in but I cannot wait to send them to be recovered.

3.  We are having our wedding shower this weekend! I'm so happy to spend some quality time celebrating with family and friends!!!

4.  I'm dying over these boots.  I needed a short black pair for this upcoming fall season and these Loeffner Randall rain boots seem so versatile and like I could wear them even when it isn't raining.  They would be PERFECT for our London/Scotland trip at the end of the year!!!

5.  I feel like September has been a magical month of checking a lot of things off my wedding "to-do" list.  It makes me happy and way less stressed.  I need to keep up my momentum!

Adventures in Food {a long overdue update on what and where I've been eating}

I have had SO many foodie items I have been wanting to share with anyone who will listen to me that I've finally tried to sit down and gather my thoughts.  I've been to several new places around Atlanta and beyond and I must share -- the good, the bad, the mediocre; etc.  The only thing I know to do here is to dive in and get right to it.

apologies as I am unable to locate source for this photo. it is not mine.

What I Loved: This place is just amazingly beautiful inside.  Great Buckhead location and incredible ambiance.  I've been for lunch twice.

What I Didn't Love:  My first trip I had an appetizer come out that was cold in the middle.  Don't get me wrong they were great about it -- brought us a new one ASAP and even comped it (not that we asked them to) from the check.  Still -- I just feel like this is something that should happen at TGI Fridays, not a Ford Fry establishment.  The second time I went on a Tuesday afternoon around 11:30 and was told that since I didn't have a reservation I had to wait for a table.  I went with M to wait at the bar -- and pretty much saw a million empty tables and lounging wait staff.  By the time they decided to come give us a table we had already had an appetizer and just decided to stay at the bar since we were already settled in.

The Food: I hate that I had so many service issues because I feel like their pastas and desserts were very, very good.  But again -- due to service I have not been back and probably won't go back for a while.

Savannah, GA

On our way to St. Simons Island we managed a pit stop in Tybee Island and went into Savannah to make a special trip to Hugh Acheson's newest digs.

What I Loved: the people I was with, our very nice server who triumphed in a seemingly chaotic Saturday night rush, wine knowledge and lists, lots to choose from on the menu, beautiful dining space and open kitchen.

What I Didn't Love: There didn't seem to be a lot of parking (although we found a space easily).

The Food:  I'd definitely be willing to return to this place but we definitely had a few food low points here.  But also some high points and great service.  We tried a fish dish, a pizza, lots of small plates, some entrees, and dessert.  The bread plate and beef carpaccio were very good.  Pizza was just ok.  M had the roasted & confit pork -- very, very good.  I will say my meal ended on a bad note with the peach tart I ordered for dessert.  I hate to be so super harsh but it was truly so dry it may as well have come from a vending machine.  A friend ordered the cannoli which was incredible.  So get that instead.

A notable mention for our trip -- Tybee Island Breakfast Club which recently got a small mention in the Garden & Gun food issue was a fun treat before we headed out of town and continued to St. Simons.  Go early so you won't have to wait as long! It's not fancy but it's good and has super large portions if you are starving.

What I Loved: Echo is located at The King and Prince resort in St. Simons and it has a special place in my heart because The Housewife got married in St. Simons and her reception was at the resort.  This is a new place to me -- I'm not quite sure when they opened but I can't wait to go back.  Service -- fantastic.  Ocean front views if you want them.  Open for breakfast, lunch, dinner, & cocktails.  I loved the food.

What I Didn't Love: Hey look -- it turns out I don't look for things to complain about. I loved everything about this place.

The Food: It was all SO SO good.  And I truly don't think that it was due to the fact that I was starving from an intense and long beach day.  Please try this place if you are in the area!

I know it's sacrilegious to be from the South and say that I don't necessarily live and die by good BBQ -- but this place may have changed my mind.  We were on such a good kick of hitting some restaurants we wanted to try out that we squeezed this one in on the way out of town.  I do not regret this stop at all.

What I Loved: Simple, good service, quaint atmosphere, ate it all outside in the August heat next to their smoker.  I had a classic pulled pork on a bun with slaw on top and a side of hush puppies.  The hush puppies shattered my soul (in a good way) and I forced the entire sandwich into my body even though I was incredibly full after eating only half. It was that good.

What I Didn't Love: The only thing that makes me sad is that this place isn't close to my house!

The Food: They had a really extensive menu and served items other than BBQ. Per Garden and Gun rumor is sometimes they have Sunday Brunch items -- like cornbread waffles.  Someone mail one of those to me as soon as possible.  In true fat-kid fashion we couldn't just leave without taking one of their pimiento cheese sandwiches with us.  I popped it in the oven the next night and we split it for dinner -- it was incredible!

I seriously may never be able to eat BBQ anywhere else again. I just don't think it will compare.

I'll try to get my other places up in another post. This one got away from me with length! One small mention should go out to supporting local coffee in St. Simons at Wake Up Coffee. Super cute, wonderful scones, and delicious iced coffee!

Also -- where are you eating right now? Seriously. I want to know.

Five on Friday

Ah! I'm so happy I'm squeezing in a Five on Friday post!

1. I'm still happy to report that work is going really, really well.  I'm not an expert at anything yet.  It's all still really challenging -- but I love my office and what we do and all the wonderful people I work with.  I feel so lucky to have all these feelings.

2.  The Housewife and I are happily training for the Thanksgiving Day Half Marathon! It feels SO good to be running and I've been really devoted to my mileage.  I ran 48 miles in August and hope to run even more in September -- but we have an off week for a long run so it may even out.   My running fitness is really coming back -- hopefully one day soon we can run on some cooler days.

3.  The stuffings/insides of our wedding invitations came today from Wedding Paper Divas. I'm really excited about them! I can't resist sharing the beautiful suite we used! "Gilded Romance". I definitely can't wait to see the actual invites in person on Tuesday!

4.  I'm happy to report that I've actually made a real effort at not shopping.  I'm working to get at least into October without buying anything.  The wedding is getting super close (just about 90 days out) and we need all our pennies.  Especially for my London min-moon blow out.

5.  I spend a lot of time working on my library hold/request list.  Today I got a notice that a book I've wanted to read forever was waiting for me at the hold desk! What a great day!

Happy weekend!

Monday Obsessions

Oh hey there! I'm trying to crawl back from the dead.  For real.  The job really is starting to feel "normal" even if a lot of my day to day still seems really challenging and hard because things just don't come very naturally to me yet.  I really miss blogging and sharing with y'all and now that I've finally crossed some more stuff off of the list for one of the smallest weddings ever I think I can resurface.

I figured we could start with some obsessions! I recently made myself revamp some of my makeup bag after holding off for what seemed like forever and I'm super pleased with two new things I am trying.

I'm super picky about my foundation because I need full coverage.  I've been getting by with some Revlon items and liked those okay -- but I was ready to bite the bullet for something better.  However, as I was looking at my basket and thinking of my budget I did a quick grab for this Sephora 10 Hour Wear Perfection Foundation.  I have to say -- I am SUPER impressed.  Definitely the coverage I want, a ton of colors, and lasts pretty much all day.  And for only $20 I may be a customer for life.

In my heart I really wanted to also get some Laura Mercier illuminating tinted moisturizer but damn it's $43.  I wish I had it.  I do.  And I was going to buy it anyway but then I saw this illuminizer.  I'm really pleased with this also and it's only $28.  It gives a really nice glow.  I have mixed with my foundation and used alone.

The last few weeks have also been awesome because Outlander finally started on Starz.  I've read the book and was so excited to see how this show turned out.  I have not been disappointed at all.  It's actually nice to watch some tv again! I never make time for tv during the week.  #claireandjamieforever

My parents got me an initial necklace for my birthday like this and I can't stop wearing it.  I feel like everyone else needs one now, too.  Especially for $38.

Since it's been so long since I have blogged I could probably keep going but I won't.  I've missed my little special outlet here.  I hope you all have a wonderful week!

Quick Check in + Beach Pics

I think everyone is getting consumed with finalizing the start of fall schedules and school related activities, at least for us. A quick weekend getaway with my best girls (and my littlest girls) was just what the doctor ordered. I taped up my wounds with a dozen water resistant patches and bandaids and we went to the beach despite a rainy forecast. The weather was wonderful.

While we were gone No. 1 and Turtle had a super fun filled weekend...which also included No. 1 playing and breaking two fingers on her left hand. Someone was obviously jealous of all the time Mom and Dad (two stress fractures) have spent with orthopedics this year. We had a temporary cast for a week until we could see the doctor. I'm absolutely sure with the way the physicians assistant, resident and orthopedic were enamored with No. 1's personality that she was a highlight of their day Monday. We opted for a cast for two weeks which had to be red and glitter. She could have worn a splint but they said she would have to be diligent about keeping it on. Naturally, the cast was the better option.
